School Council Report

As the School Camps get closer and we get the occasional sunny day, we're reminded that warmer weather is only around the corner!

The Executive met just before School Council as usual, to review key/current concerns and updates. Our Sub-committees then discussed a range of items related to either Facilities or Education.

For the Facilities group the focus was on the recently completed Sensory Garden and Library refurbishment, and how/when we might celebrate their 'official opening'. We also reviewed the next phase of the Undercover Walkway (the new portion was put to good use for Cupcake Day last month, when the rain came). There was also some discussion about our recent Grant application, where we are seeking some funding for upgrade works. Thinking has begun about holding our next Working Bee - what area we will target and when is the best timing.

The Education team looked at the Childsafe Code of Conduct Policy, assessing it for currency and language.

In our main School Council meeting, we recognised the success of several events (including House Athletics Day) as well as significant contributions from both PA and the broader POPS Community (including Snack Shack support and the Clothing Recycling initiative). Our PA Report highlighted that the evolution of PA continues, and we have some stalwarts moving on next year. We look forward to encouraging some new faces to join next year - a lot of effort has been put into breaking up the various roles to make them more accessible.

We also discussed the preliminary NAPLAN results (very positive, and a fitting reward for the effort/focus that has been put in by everyone) and the phonetics program that is being refined by the Department for next year.

Our Financial Report continued to show that the school is in a strong position, with the recent Project outlays within the expected budgets.

I hope that most of you have been enjoying the Olympics, despite a terrible time difference, especially on School nights!

Regards,

Kynan

School Council President
