Olympic Bound

Congratulations to a member of our staff, Gordon Talbot (Maintenance) who is coach to athlete Dayna Crees, as Dayna been selected to compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Gordon and Dayna have been training together for 10 years, Dayna starting at the age of 12 and now at 22 will be competing in the seated javelin on the1st September and seated shot put on the 3rd of September in Paris. Dayna has Cerebral Palsy which affects her lower body, but this has certainly not stopped her from achieving her goals.

In the past 10 years Gordon and Dayna have achieved many State, National and Oceania records. They travelled to Paris last year for the World Athletics Para Championships where Dayna finished 4th in the javelin and 6th in the shot put. A tremendous effort which earned her a place in the Paralympics.

Their goal in Paris is to throw further than last year.

Dayna will be visiting our school on the 8th of August to meet our staff and students and to tell us about her journey that has taken her to the Paralympics to represent our country.

We wish Dayna and Gordon all the best in Paris, and we will be cheering them on.

Paralympics Australia has a pen pal program where you can send Paralympians messages of support, please visit Paralympics Australia on the website for further details.  https://education.paralympic.org.au
