T3 2024
Welcome back to term 3. We hope you had a great school holiday and enjoyed any NAIDOC Week activities you may have attended. On Friday next week we have the Supporting First Nations Students in Maths session. An invitation to the event was sent home early this week and more information can be found below. We hope you can pop in for a while, have a cuppa and watch some of our students playing the games they use in class.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Families Survey
An electronic survey was sent via email last term to follow up on some of the questions that were raised on our pizza meet and greet last term. Thank you to the families who were able to complete this online. We will be sending the survey out in paper form next week as a few emails didn’t work and we are very interested in getting the whole community’s opinions.
Term 3 Events
Supporting First Nations Students in Maths – Friday 9th August
First Nations Families are invited to come and join us on Friday 9th August (week 3) at 9:00 in the Penney Conference Room. Watch our First Nations learners demonstrate maths games that they use in their classrooms, and they will explain their learning to you. Fiona Dealtry, our Maths Coordinator, can answer questions about the school’s Big Ideas in Number focus and the strategies used in maths. Refreshments will be provided.
STEM Aboriginal Learners’ Congress – Thursday 29th and Friday 30th August
Three students from our school will be attending the 2024 STEM Aboriginal Learners Congress at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 29 & 30 August 2024. The Congress celebrates the past and current achievements of Aboriginal people through their work and passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and will inspire young Aboriginal learners to pursue challenging subjects in school and to explore the skills required to pursue a career in STEM.
Nunga Tag – Tuesday 24th September
Nunga Tag will be held on Tuesday 24th September 2024 at the Hackham Football Club. Eight students in years 4-6 will be representing the school in the competition. More information will be sent home mid term.
