Fun-packed Term 3 for the Preps
Celebrating the 100th Day of Prep
Our Prep students had an exciting time celebrating their 100th day of Prep! The theme for the day was all about exploring what people wore 100 years ago. The children were fascinated to learn about fashion from a century ago and facts including discovering that the Olympics were hosted by Paris 100 years ago!
To make the day even more special, the Prep students learned a poem by A. A. Milne from his collection “Now We Are Six”. During the Prep Assembly, they sang “The End” to a ukulele tune, adding a musical and nostalgic touch to the celebration. The children enjoyed performing and learning about the literary and musical creations from a century ago.
Fire Education with Local Hawthorn Firefighters
In addition to celebrating the 100th day of Prep, our Prep students had an informative and thrilling experience with visits from our local firefighter team. The firefighters taught the children about the difference between good fires and bad fires, emphasising the importance of fire safety.
The Prep students participated in a fire alarm and safety evacuation drill, learning to “Crawl down low, go go go!” to stay safe from smoke. They were also introduced to the firefighter’s job, uniform, and gear, which sparked a lot of curiosity and excitement.
The highlight of the visit was exploring the different equipment on the fire truck and even getting a chance to use a firefighter’s hose! Preps ] were thrilled to see how the hose worked and enjoyed the hands-on experience.
National Science Week at Auburn South
From the 11th to 18th of August is National Science Week. The theme for Science Week is species survival and we will be hosting different computer programming games on Scratch that kids can play and also learn how to block code. If your kids are interested in attending the activities at school, meet us at lunch play on the second day of Science Week which is on Tuesday the 12th of August in the school hall. If you are interested in doing some fun science activities as a family, by yourself or with friends you can visit https://www.scienceweek.net.au/ which is the national science week website that will give you fun activities to do with others.

Volunteering at ASPS
After reviewing our current processes, we have developed a Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook.
Going forward, all volunteers at ASPS (sporting events, classroom reading, excursions, SAKG, canteen etc.) will be required to read this handbook and return the two signed forms, along with their WWC, to the office.
Once this has occurred, then you can volunteer at ASPS.
Please find the Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook below:
