Book Week 2024
Book week is coming soon. This year EDSC will celebrate Book Week from Monday 19 August to Friday 23 August in Week 6 of this term.
Students should start planning their favourite book character costumes now. There will be prizes awarded to the best dressed students on our annual Book Week dress-up day.
More details about the fun and activities will be revealed shortly, with updates available in the library and on Compass soon.
2024 EDSC Bookmark Competition
Our annual EDSC Library Bookmark Design Competition is now open! Entries close on Friday 9 August.
This year student designs must respond to the Book Week theme ‘Reading is Magic’. The winning design will be selected by popular vote, professionally printed, and provided free to students in the Library. The winner will also receive a $20 prize voucher.
Designs should be emailed to library@eastdonsc.vic.edu.au by Friday 9 August. You can enter more than once.
Students can create a handmade or digital design. The following rules apply:
- Bookmarks must be sized 206mm x 56mm.
- The background should go right to the edges. Any text or important graphics need 3mm of ‘bleed’ space at the edge (they should fit inside the size 200mm x 50mm).
- Digital designs should be 300dpi. Students can use these digital templates for guidance if you like (scroll down to 'Bookmarks' and select templates from the first row).
- Handmade designs can be photographed or scanned and emailed, and if they win, we will organise a high-quality scan of the artwork for printing.
- Designs must be one sided only. Students may sign your name on the design if you like.
- Designs must include ‘EDSC Reads 2024’ somewhere.
- Designs must respond to the theme ‘Reading is Magic’. These words do not need to appear in designs, and students can interpret this broad theme however they wish.
- Designs must be students’ own work (and not AI generated).
All the rules and other information for the competition can be found on the Library website.
Less Than Six Weeks to go in the EDSC Reading Challenge
EDSC students are reminded to enter all books read over the school holidays into the Reading Challenge, as the deadline is fast approaching.
All books must be entered by Wednesday, 4 September in week 8 of this term, meaning students have just under 6 weeks to complete the Challenge.
EDSC students have read an impressive 3,437 books so far this year, with 47 students locking in their invitation to our Term 4 Reading Challenge party.
All students who read and verify 15 or more books by the 4 September deadline will be invited to the party.
Congratulations to the winner of our most recent Reading Challenge Fortnightly Draw:
Adabelle of 7L won a $10 canteen voucher.
Students can enter all the books they’ve read since January 1, 2024 into the EDSC Reading Challenge Google Form. All details including rules and prizes are on our Reading Challenge webpage.
Students are encouraged to talk to a librarian if they need assistance with the Reading Challenge.
