Year 10 Italian Day Out

On Wednesday 17 July, 20 students attended the Year 10 Italian Day Out excursion at CO AS IT in Carlton. East Doncaster was one of five schools who took part in this event that was aimed at highlighting the importance of continuing with and studying Italian. It focussed on the benefits and highlighted the job prospects to students with a background in the language.

We all know that Italy is one of the biggest producers of wine, olive oil and designer clothing, but did you know that Italy is also one of the biggest producers of pharmaceutical products, ships and robots? Being able to speak and understand Italian can open so many doors for students all over the world.

Students were divided into ‘squadre’ (teams) made up of students from different schools. Each squadra was competing against each other. Each group completed three activities on a rotation. Students watched a short film and completed a set of comprehension tasks; they uploaded a Tik Tok video acting out an Italian expression and completed a Lygon Street treasure hunt using clues.

Working with students from other schools gave our students an opportunity to meet with other Year 10 Italian students, share ideas and experiences and use the language. It forced some students  to come out of their comfort zone.

It was a pleasure to watch our students work collaboratively with other students and represent our College.

Students were treated to pizza at Ms Frankie in Faraday Street for lunch. Who doesn’t like pizza.

A great day out!
