We pray for Tom Duffy’s (Year 11 Harold) grandmother who is gravely ill in hospital. May she be surrounded by love and light, and all who love her draw comfort from the sacredness of their time with her. We pray for all those who are unwell and those nearing death, that they may receive gentle care and that God’s healing spirit may provide strength. May God welcome into eternal life all those who have gone before us.
We truly value the participation of all our students in our Community Masses and were delighted to once again have many of our sportsmen and others attend last Friday’s Mass. Mass is celebrated each Wednesday at 8:00am and Friday during 1st break.
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday 4 August – John 6:35
'I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never be hungry;
he who believes in me will never thirst.'
Bread from heaven – manna – is what the Book of Exodus tells us the Israelites eat as they are led by Moses through the desert. Jesus, in John’s Gospel, is reminding the descendants of Israel that this bread was given by God, not Moses. And not only that, but Jesus is revealed as the true bread. The image of Jesus as bread is seen through the Eucharist, where the consecrated bread and wine is broken and shared. Word and Eucharist are ‘food’ for the Christian life, calling believers to live in Christ as Christ lives in us.
We pray we will draw strength and nourishment from our faith to bring Christ’s light into the world.
Mary our good mother pray for us
St Marcellin Champagnat pray for us
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop pray for us
And may we always remember to pray for one another
Amen. +
It was wonderful to see the spirited way our students got behind our Environment Group’s free dress day on Friday. Whether through the $2 monitor donations or bags of Basmati rice (a veritable mountain has been collected!), we’re grateful to all our families for making this fundraiser a success, allowing us to continue supporting FareShare who do such valuable work cooking meals for needy people in our community.
A wonderful light-filled evening was experienced on Saturday evening as various community groups paraded through South Bank to say ‘welcome’ to people from all over the world who have made Queensland their home. Our students did a beautiful job of representing the college, adding to the spirit and message of embracing cultural diversity. It was great to be part of such a special community event. We hope to return next year!
A group of Year 7 Gilroy students were warmly welcomed at the Paddington Community Centre on Thursday last week. Fun activities with an Olympic twist had been planned. The students were split between “Pam’s Warriors” and “Tina’s Troops” as each team vied for the win. Points were awarded to the team that could stack cup towers the quickest, draw the best picture of a castle, shoot cups with Nerf guns and produce the loudest whistle, amongst other things. The students rounded off their visit with a song. Ollie said “I loved entertaining the old folk”, while Edward described it as “fun, exciting and entertaining”. The last word goes to Jack who reflected: “I’m really glad I had the experience because it was really fun. I got to draw a castle!”
The Vinnies group will once again be cooking delicious Bacon & Egg Burgers this Thursday morning before school. Come and grab one for just $4.50.
Thanks to our volunteers who made it along to Stationery Aid on Friday morning. Stationery Aid will continue again next week in Room 801 from 7:30am-8:30am. We hope to see you there!
