Physical Education News
Dear Students, Families, and Parents,
The students have been working hard on their skills as well as their knowledge of the games that they are learning. Keep up the great work everyone!
Grade 6 Division Netball
Well done to our Grade 6 Netball team who competed last Wednesday at the district netball event in Altona! Unfortunately, the girls didn’t make it through to the next round but represented Tarneit Rise with Pride and left everything out on the court. They finished third which is a great achievement!
Grade 6 Regional Tee ball
Well done to our boys tee-ball team for their efforts at the division Tee-ball gala day down in Geelong. The boy's team along with Mr Dew left nice and early to make it down to Stead Park in time for their first game. The boys had a very close first game which they unfortunately were defeated but bounced back in game 2 winning by 10 runs! The last game they boys had all to play for to try and make the finals. They put up a tough fight, but the other team was too good and came away with the win. Well done for your effort's boys! We are very proud.

NRL Tag 3&4 22nd August
Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2
The Preps are now in the fourth week of their gymnastics unit. They have been improving their vestibular system by participating in many different kinds of movements that involve putting the body into positions that will not often put themselves into. Centered in the inner ear, the vestibular system, one of our senses, is triggered when we change the position of our heads. Moving the head in any direction activates the vestibular receptors and sends information which helps our brain to know where we are in space and how we are moving.
The students have also been working very hard on their cartwheels. We have recently acquired a cartwheel mat which some of our students are able to cartwheel the whole way down. This has been great for improving student balance through their Vestibular system as they are constantly turning their heads upside down. Cartwheels have been teaching the students control in their legs and core as they need to keep their bodies and legs straight as they rotate round in the cartwheel. You can practice cartwheels at home in an open space on a rug or out in the backyard on some grass!

Grades 3 and 4
Grades 3s and 4s have been learning about target games and how they can be opposed and unopposed. We have been playing beanbag golf which is very similar to regular golf except the students are throwing beanbags. We have been incorporating our new throws of the crow hop and the pro step to be able to throw further to reduce our score. The students have had to think about strategies and minimise scores by navigating obstacles and selecting throws that are appropriate to the shot. As well as golf students have learnt how to play Bocce. In Bocce students have had to learn how to control their throws and change their power depending on how far each target is. These target games have allowed all students to show new skills and compete against each other in a fun sociable way.
Grades 5 and 6
The Grades 5s and 6s have also been working on their target games. They have been playing modified games such as naughts and crosses bocce. This game involves having to land 3 balls in a row within the 9 hoops which are set up in a grid. The students had to use strategy to block and set up their wins by landing in hoops that would stop the other teams from winning. The 5s and 6s have also been working on their underarm throw technique cornhole to maximise their score.

If you would like your child posted in the next issue of the TRPS Superstars section please send your child’s photo, name, and club to the school email.
Student of the Week!
Mildred Srahah
Well done to Mildred who is our student of the week for this week. Mildred has shown our schools values of growth and responsibility by helping students with their cartwheels! Mildred has shown off her gymnastic skills by showing us how well she can do a cartwheel. Mildred starts in a lunge position then she turns her hands 90 degrees as she plants them on the ground. Then she swings her legs over her hand in a wheel motion before she lands in a lunge position.
