Student Voice and Agency at Tarneit Rise Primary School

A big focus at Tarneit Rise Primary School this year has been on growing student voice, leadership and agency ~ putting into practice the conditions that foster everyone's voice and aspirations. At TRPS we believe that every student and staff member embody endless potential, that we can always learn from one another, and that working together achieves better outcomes for everyone. We have been working closely with the Quaglia Institute of Voice and Aspiration to help in this work which is based on nearly forty years of research in the field of student aspirations. This research shows students who believe in themselves, are actively engaged in their learning, and feel a sense of purpose in school are more likely to develop high aspirations and reach their fullest potential - in school and beyond. Last week we held more parent sessions and would like to thank those who attended to learn more about this important work.  Please take some time this week to talk to your children about ‘SOAR’ at TRPS.

2025 Planning

We have started the early stages of planning for 2025. If you are leaving the area and your child will not be attending Tarneit Rise PS in 2025, or if you plan on transferring your child to one of our neighbouring schools, Wimba, Karwan or the new Riverdale PS (Interim name) you are zoned to, please let the office know so we can plan, using accurate student numbers. This will also support our neighbouring schools with their future planning. Please complete the student exit form by clicking the following link https://forms.gle/1c1YPewNVCG3R4UV9

2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey:

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly

for survey guides in your language.

Please email the school if you would like more information.

This week I had the absolute privilege of working alongside 30 of our grades 3-5 high ability children, who were selected to participate in a writing workshop with renowned author, Andy Griffiths. The children absolutely loved the workshop and gained practical ideas to enhance their (narrative) writing skills. The online workshop was live streamed from the State Library of Victora, and it was interesting to note, none of the children had ever been to visit the State Library. The State Library is such an incredible place to visit! It opened as the Melbourne Public Library and is not only Australia's oldest public library but also one of the first free public libraries in the world. The library was created as 'the people's university' – a place of learning and discovery for all Victorians and houses Ned Kelly’s armour! If you’re looking for something fun and interesting (and free) to do with the family, please check out the link below to find out more about what the State Library of Victoria has on offer. I’s like to extend a big thank you to Jamilee Pearce for organising this event for our children as part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series for our high ability children.
