Hiragana Competition 2024

On Thursday the 12th of September Fox Sensei had the pleasure of taking Isaiah, Zoya  and Aaradhya  to compete at the Adelaide North East Schools District Hiragana Competition 2024.

This year it was hosted by One Tree Hill Primary School who were wonderful hosts and made us feel at home, with one of their students filling in for one of our team who couldn’t make it. While the competition proved to be very tough, our Modbury team did us proud by showing up at each round and doing their best.

As well as the main competition, there were dance contests where the children won lollies for dancing well, we also teamed up with Ardtornish Primary School for a game where we had to transfer popcorn from one bowl using chopsticks into another bowl placed further away.

Each of our team brought a Japanese-themed prize home and had sushi, popcorn and a juice box for lunch. Before we left we made sure to say konnichiwa to One Tree Hills’s charismatic pig called Gertrude, as well as its goats and chickens.

I would like to thank our principal, Sara Slater, as well as Kym Bennetts from the office for their support in getting us to the competition this year.
