What's Happening

Public Education Week 5-9 August 2024

Public Education Week is when we celebrate and acknowledge all those who contribute to our children and young people’s educational journey. School staff, parents and carers, community leaders and P&C associations all play an important role in our students' education.

This year’s theme is: Proud to belong. Public Education Week is a time for all of us to feel “proud to belong”, sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education and the achievements of our students and staff.

Each stage organised a celebration, inviting parents, families and carers to come and see what their young people are learning, doing and achieving at school. Activities included morning teas, a BBQ lunch, tea/coffee and cake and tours of our Art on Anson art exhibition. Students were very excited to have their friends and families visit this week.

Eisteddfod

On Thursday the junior dance group and senior dance group competed at the City of Orange Eisteddfod. Both groups have worked very hard on learning their routines, practising and perfecting their moves and putting costumes together. The sportsmanship between the two groups was amazing - wishing each other good luck and giving encouragement during practices.

Congratulations to both groups who were announced joint winners of the section. Each of the students was awarded a medal and the school received the perpetual trophy and banners. Thanks to Mrs Hudson and Brianna for their fantastic choreography and to the staff who supported our students.

Bullying No Way: National Week of Action

Bullying No Way Week (12-16 August) is all about the important roles school, family and community play in helping young people feel accepted, respected and that they have a place where they belong.

The theme for 2024 is Everyone Belongs. In school, belonging is like a superpower against bullying. It's what brings us together, makes us stronger, and helps us understand and support each other.

When we feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.

Book Week 17-23 August

The Children's Book Council of Australia run Book Week as their national event of the year. This year the theme is Reading is Magic and we are celebrating reading stories and their amazing power to transport minds. We are encouraging kids to be curious about the wonders in our world.

A book fair will be set up in the library during Book Week and you are welcome to visit and purchase a book for your child, or yourself or perhaps one to donate to the school library. Classes will visit the book fair during the week and we will wrap up the celebrations with a book character parade on the Friday. More information coming home soon!
