CLTAV Chinese Reading Competition

On 23rd August, Aliza (7M), Christina (7D), and Deeksha (8L) proudly represented Cranbourne East Secondary College at the State-wide Chinese Reading Competition. The event, hosted by the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Victoria (CLTAV), took place at the Copland Theatre, University of Melbourne. College Production - Primary School Visits

On Tuesday the 20th and Wednesday the 21st of August, Year 6 students from Wilandra Rise Primary School and Cranbourne East Primary School attended the College production of High School Musical. The energy of the audience boosted the performances of our students and was a great way for our communities to connect. We continue to develop engagement programs that assist with transition for the Year 6 students to high school in 2025 with the production being one of the highlights for the year. Congratulations to the team of staff and students that made this event so successful.

Year 8’s Tasty Adventures in Chinese Class!

This term, our Year 8 students have been on a culinary journey, learning to introduce their favourite foods in Chinese! From juicy dumplings to crispy spring rolls, the class has been sharing what makes their taste buds dance. Our superstars in the HAP group took it up a notch, delivering short presentations about their ideal meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s been so much fun watching them confidently share their food preferences in perfect Mandarin! Who knew learning a language could be so delicious?

Mandarin Club Celebrations

Over the past few weeks, our Mandarin Club has been immersed in the festive spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival. To mark this important cultural occasion, students got creative by making mooncakes using play dough and crafting traditional rabbit lanterns. We also had the opportunity to taste some delicious mooncakes, adding a sweet touch to our celebrations. It was a wonderful way for students to engage with Chinese culture, and everyone enjoyed the activities and festive treats!

As the term comes to an end, we wish everyone a joyful and restful holiday. Have a great break!

Celebration Assembly

This week in Year 8, we had a Celebration Assembly to acknowledge and celebrate our Year 8 students. On Monday and Tuesday, we had Assemblies that started with a musical performance where one of our students played a piece from the movie ‘Interstellar’. He performed very well and his skill in playing the piano was wonderful to see.

This was followed by a range of different awards that included 100% attendance and best attendance growth since Term 2. These students were presented with certificates and were able to join our pizza lunch celebration that we held on Wednesday this week.

After attendance, we then turned our recognising to the highest-Grade Point Average (GPAs) for this Term and the top 10 students who improved their GPAs since the last cycle. This was then followed by a few acknowledgements for several programs including Hands on Learning and Music Achievements.

The assembly then wrapped up with recognising several of our students for their participation and accomplishments in extra-curricular activities that included: Chinese Language Competition, Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) Awards and Victorian State School Spectacular.

We are very proud of our Year 8 cohort and they have certainly earned a break with the upcoming holidays. Be good, look after yourself over the holidays and we will see you at the start of Term 4.

  • Year 8 Leaders

Tyson Day Guest Speaker

In Term 3, Tyson Day's Arrive and Thrive program was delivered to our Year 8 students. Focusing on career development for our young people, Tyson emphasized the importance of self-management and positive mindsets. His human-centered approach created a safe and inclusive environment where participants engaged in career planning.

By building on their existing knowledge and experiences, students gained valuable skills aligned with the Australian Blueprint of Career Development. The enthusiasm and growth displayed by our Year 8s was inspiring, and we look forward to seeing how they will apply these skills in the years to come.

Reach Foundation Incursion

We recently hosted the REACH Foundation workshops, and the experience was transformative for our students. With a focus on connection, respect, and positive self-expression, the workshops encouraged participants to share their high school experiences, fostering empathy and awareness of how behaviour and bullying impacts others. Students engaged in open discussions about navigating challenges, building resilience, and enhancing social and emotional skills. The safe environment allowed for honest expression and connection among peers.

Year 8 Money Talks Incursion Part 2

Year 8 students have participated in the second part of the Talk Money program this term. This initiative introduced key financial concepts and money management skills in an engaging and inclusive way.

Year 8 Butterfly Foundation – Body Kind Program

Our Year 8s have started the Body Kind  eLearning program in collaboration with the University of the Sunshine Coast. This program is designed to support teens and their self-image through engaging online resources. Nearly half of young people say that social media has made them feel dissatisfied, anxious or upset about themselves and more report feeling pressured to look a certain way. This program will conclude in Term 4.

Targeted Program Sleep Patterns - Postponed until Term 4

We are excited to share with you an upcoming initiative designed to support our students in managing their sleep patterns effectively. These sessions will be facilitated by a trained Adolescent Health Nurse with the goal to address the ten main reasons young people have sleep issues and provide practical tips to improve sleep quality. These sessions will be running in Term 4.

Year 8 Celebration Day

We are excited to announce that Year 8 Celebration day will be occurring at Springvale Indoor Sports Centre on the 9th of December. Students will need to be in FULL SCHOOL PE UNIFORM to attend this excursion. Our Year 8 student leadership group voted for this event and are currently deciding on the sport/activity rotations.

Year 8 Science Expo

Our Year 8 science students have been working on a project this term that has had them researching a solution to an environmental problem and presenting this solution to their class. The students were then provided an opportunity to present their projects to other Year levels and teachers. We congratulate these students on their hard work with their projects.

Year 8 Economics Documentary - Global Factories

In Humanities, our Year 8 students are working on a documentary that will be presented to the Year 8 cohort. The Documentary examines the economic, social and environmental impact of outsourcing clothing production to developing nations and how this affects producers and consumers. Students have been working hard on this during Term 3 and will be presenting their work in Term 4 during Year 8 Assembly.
