Careers and Pathways

Term 3 is always a busy time in Careers & Pathways as students begin preparing and making applications for the coming year. Please read on to see what we’ve been up to and cast your eye over some important reminders.

Year 10 Course Selection Day

One of the biggest decisions our students make is what their VCE program will look like. At Edgars Creek we offer the VCE certificate in both the general stream and the Vocational Major over 2 years; years 11 and 12. With this qualification, students can leave secondary school to a number of different pathways including University, TAFE, Apprenticeships, Traineeships, and Employment.

On Wednesday 24th July, after many weeks of investigation and discussion, Course Selection Day was held at Edgars Creek where students finalised and submitted their VCE program selections. These selections will be reviewed and used to construct timetables for 2025 throughout the remainder of Term 3 with students set to receive their confirmed subject enrolments in Term 4. A reminder that these enrolments will be subject to students meeting the Year 10 to 11 promotion policy.

Any students who have yet to submit their selections are urged to do so as soon as possible, as those without selections cannot be guaranteed a place in their preferred programs.

Careers Expo

In week 2, our Year 11 students were taken on an excursion to the 2024 Melbourne Career Expo at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Students spent the morning speaking to Universities, TAFES, Apprenticeship & Traineeship providers and employers, and were encouraged to gather information and make contacts with providers and employers of interest.

There were hands-on demonstrations and robust conversations happening at every turn with our students leaving the event with not only bags of goodies, but invaluable knowledge and experiences they can reflect on, and help guide them throughout the remainder of their VCE and in their future career planning.
