Year 5/6
Year 5/6 Cluster News
HOME INQUIRY:
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. As students complete a book, they are to record the author, title and date of finishing in their Reader’s Workshop book. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.
Mathematics: Continue working on general multiplication skills and number facts.
Uniform: Please ensure students are wearing the correct uniform as stated in the uniform policy. Students in Year 5/6 should be in formal uniform on Monday and Wednesday (unless they have netball practice). If a child has come to school in the incorrect uniform, it is an expectation that a parent note or email will be sent with the child.
SACSA Netball: We have nominated for a girls’ and boys’ team for SACSA Netball. Students will be trying out for this event over the next couple of weeks and the teams will be chosen from there.
Year 6 Graduation: We would like to share a photo gallery of the graduating class on graduation night. We need 2 photos of your child to show how they have grown up into the students we know today. These photos can be emailed to Ms. Neumann (neumann.lauren@goldengrove.sa.edu.au). Please include a baby photo and first day of school photo. Please have these in by the end of Term 3.
Year 6 shirts: As some of you may know, we have some new Year 6 students that have joined us. Because of this, we are giving all Year 6 students the opportunity to order additional Year 6 shirts. If you would like a shirt, please place your order via the Qkr! App by 4.00pm Friday 9 August.
Current and Upcoming Learning
Christian Studies: We have started our new unit which focuses on ‘Students develop skills to examine the scriptures and analyse its cultural and historical contexts’. We are initially focusing on the Bible and its textual features. Student will begin diving deeply into a specific book of the bible, exploring its author and historical context of the book.
Unit Of Inquiry: We have begun our ‘How we Organise Ourselves’ government unit and have looked at different types of governments around the world. We will have a deeper look at democracy and will be going on an excursion to Parliament House on Monday.
Literacy: During reader’s and writer’s workshop it has been wonderful to see students present their oral presentations. These will be airdropped to students who will upload them to Toddle. Please watch these with your child and reflect on what they have achieved.
Mathematics: This week, students have started their unit on fractions. They have begun by showing us what they already know through a ‘know and show’ thinking routine. Please continue to have conversations about fractions in real life.
