Devotion
In Matthew 6: 25 - 34, Jesus says:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
At the Lutheran Principal's Conference last week, one of our amazing speakers was a gentleman by the name of Dinesh Palipana. Dinesh shared much of his life story with us, from growing up as a child in Sri Lanka during the Civl War, to coming to Australia with his family as a refugee as he started secondary school. From there Dinesh went on to study law, before experiencing some struggles with depression which led him into the field of medicine. He was halfway through his medical studies when he was in a car accident, which left him in a wheelchair. Dinesh was able to complete his studies after a time and now works as a doctor in the busiest emergency department in Queensland. Obviously this was a highly motivational story to hear of the many times Dinesh had overcome massive adversity in his life to rebuild and go onto things that were even greater. He spoke of the power of valuing and living in the present, and letting the ones that you love know that you do!
Part of Dinesh's sentiments also reminded me of these words that Jesus spoke in the Bible. He reminds us to put our faith him Him and to entrust Him with our tomorrow. It is a great relief and lifts a massive burden when we can do that through faith and prayer!
Dear Lord, we thank you for the way that we can cast our burdens and worries to you and have the faith to trust you with our worries and thoughts about tomorrow. We pray that we will appreciate them any gifts and blessings that you give us. Amen
