Olympics Day

Today we celebrated the Olympics at Sacred Heart. It was great to see both teachers and students embrace the spirit of the games, dressing up in country colours and bringing in a touch of Olympics. There were medals, scarves, basketball tops, helmets, skateboards and even a horse (not real) to represent equestrian. Each year level participated in the Mini Olympics incursion run by Mini Boss. In teams, the students worked together to complete activities inspired by different countries, gathering facts and information.

The students also participated in Olympic themed activities throughout the day. The Year 1/2 students participated in Potato Olympics and rotated through the following events, estimating, measuring and recording:

-Velodrome

-Dance

-Spudput

-Spud sprint

Year 3/4's also rotated through the classrooms participating in Potato Maths relay races, Kahoot Fun with Flags and Potato measurement activities. The senior students completed an Olympics research project about a topic of their choice.

Year 3/4 Soccer Gala Day

Next Friday 9 August, our Year 3 and 4 students have been invited to a Soccer Gala Day competing against other schools in our district. It's a great way to introduce competitive soccer to children and a chance for those already in soccer teams to compete against other children in our district. The day is all about maximum participation and having a go. No prior skill or team experience is necessary.

Teams have been organised according to gender and they will play a round-robin style tournament throughout the day.

The tournament will take place on Friday August 9th at Hislop Reserve, Balwyn North from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Please complete the relevant Operoo form that was shared this week.

As was communicated to families towards the end of last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school. For 2024, there are opportunities to acquit TIL for the whole school on the following days:

Friday April 26 (day after ANZAC Day);

Monday November 4 (day before Cup Day);

early finishes on the last days of Terms 1, 2 and 3;

end of Term 4 from Wednesday 18 December.

Please note that no primary school students should be dismissed from schools prior to Tuesday 17 December 2024 – this is their earliest finish date
