Year 1/2 News

In the Garden

The Year 1/2s have enjoyed spending time in the garden with Kathie, creating a new scarecrow and planting seeds.

Literacy

In Literacy, students have been working on new beginning and ending sounds to assist when reading unfamiliar words. During Writing, they have been building upon simple sentences to more complex ones. Students have been improving the quality of their writing through adjectives and verbs, as well as exploring interesting problems and solutions for their narratives.

Mathematics 

Students have been learning about location, giving and following directions and broadening their vocabulary of direction words. Students have been focusing on addition and subtraction strategies and problem-solving to show their thinking in different ways. Students have also been using open-ended number lines to support their learning.

Inquiry

During Inquiry, students have been learning research skills to find out facts about Earth. Students have presented these facts in the form of a project and shared their new knowledge with the wider community at our weekly Tuesday assembly. Next, we will be exploring natural disasters and the impact they have on the environment.
