Africa Day Celebrations

This term we celebrated Africa Week and what fun we had!

In addition to daily Home Group lessons, our students did a fantastic job planning activities for each recess and lunch time break, which included music and dance performances, cultural games, hair braiding, food tasting and a fashion try-on. We also had a workshop run by Networking African-Australians who brought together a number of students from GSSC and Notre Dame College and a hugely popular drumming activity hosted by African Star Dance & Drumming Company.

The week culminated with a whole school assembly where we got to learn more about the continent, including its challenges and strength, diversity in people, culture and languages, as well as the various backgrounds of our African Australian students here at GSSC. Of the 54 African countries, we have 17 represented here at GSSC!

Thank you to Haroun Kafi, a prominent member of the local Sudanese community, for attending as our guest speaker and to everyone who was involved in making this week a big success.
