Active & Alive
NSW School Sport Unit Boccia Competition
In Week 4 our primary and secondary boccia team traveled to Bathurst to compete in the Western Region qualifying event in the NSW boccia tournament.
Our primary team of Connor B, Myah, Destiny and Heidi finished in 4th place with 2 wins and 2 losses. Our secondary team of Alex P and Madisyn finished in 7th place with 1 win, 1 draw and 5 losses. All students played the games with great team spirit and sportsmanship. Thank you to Mr Gross, Miss Krissie-Lee and Miss EJ for accompanying our students to this event.
Wednesday Sport - Soccer
It has been a huge privilege to have Tabatha from Football NSW visit the school each Wednesday to run a soccer program for our primary and secondary students. The activities have been engaging and assisted the students in kicking skills but also the benefits or playing as a team. This program has been funded by the Sporting Schools program meaning costs have not had to be passed on to families.
Premier's Sporting Challenge
Once again, students are participating in the Premiers Sporting Challenge which aims to get people more active more often. This year, staff are participating for the first time, challenging students to see who can be the most active. Classes are keeping track of their physical activity in class to see if they achieve bronze, silver, gold or diamond level. All physical activity done at school and home count so a great chance to do some extra running, walking and playing at home.
Sporting Achievements in the Community
It is always a pleasure to hear about students achieving sporting success in their chosen fields in the community.
Congratulations to Felicity who has been awarded the Cabonne Council Youth of the Month award for March. Felicity was nominated by the school due to her sporting achievements in making the Western team to compete at the NSWCHS State Swimming Championships recently held in Sydney. Felicity shows true school spirit by always cheering and supporting her peers with a smile on her face. Felicity was presented with her award by Cabonne Council Mayor Mr Kevin Beatty.
Riley W recently competed in the Mountains and Plains Swimming Championships in Bathurst where he walked away with 4 medals. The school recently received a phone call from Riley swim coach regarding his achievement - Riley swam on the weekend in
4 races, coming first in all 4 and 4 personal bests. The coach spoke very highly of Riley and his family.
Congratulations on your achievements Felicity and Riley and if anyone has other stories about sporting performances outside of school, please pass them on to me so we can celebrate them.
