Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week is the 27th of May to the 3rd of June every year. The 27th of May is the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, the 3rd of June is the anniversary of the Mabo decision. The theme for 2024 is 'Now More Than Ever'. In support of this theme classes learned about the significance of these dates and how they can make a difference by working together every day.

Primary classes completed a collaborative artwork for Reconciliation Week. Classes read the Rainbow Serpent and other Dreaming stories during the week.

Stage 4 enjoyed creating artworks with animals, animal tracks and symbols.

Stage 5 enjoyed creating a range of artworks to celebrate Reconciliation Week.

Stage 6 coordinated a whole school artwork which located in the front transport hallway.

CESE

The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) visited Anson Street School last week to conduct interviews as part of their PLP research. Previously, their research concentrated on mainstream schools. During their visit, the team interviewed groups of 2-3 individuals in a culturally safe environment to gather insights into our processes, best practices, and further suggestions. They interviewed students, families, members of our Aboriginal Education Group, teachers, and executive. The findings from this research will offer recommendations to schools on how to best support our First Nations families.

Evelyn Parkes was one of two students who spoke with guests from Sydney. They were acknowledged at assembly, receiving a Deputy Principal award for demonstrating confidence when expressing ideas!

Prue Car MP visit

It was a wonderful privilege to show our beautiful school to Prue Car MP, the students and staff loved meeting the Deputy Premier.

Prue Car MP posted on Facebook "Amazing things happen at Anson Street School

Recently, I had the privilege of touring the school with leaders Blake, Dylan, Jai, Myah, and Stella. During my visit I met students who were learning a range of valuable lessons from barista and cashier skills to everyday living tasks like folding clothes, cleaning, and personal hygiene. Anson Street not only provides quality education to their students, but sets them up for life after school. The education initiatives they have implemented are nothing short of incredible."

Dental van

Recently the Australian Dental Health team visited our school offering free checkups to all students. It was pleasing that 62 families provided consent and 51 students successfully attended the van to have their teeth checked.

Whilst some students were able to have x-rays, fillings and fissure seals, others took home a follow-up request. Please make an appointment with a local dentist if further action is needed.
