District Cross Country

Regional Chess Tournament 

On Thursday, 23rd May we hosted a Regional Chess Tournament at the College with students from the following schools in attendance:

• Beaconhills College
• Berwick College
• Eltham College
• Gippsland Grammar
• Lakeside College
• Mazenod College
• Nossal High School
• Peninsula Grammar
• St Margaret's Berwick Grammar

With 132 students competing from 10 Colleges, we were pleased that our team were placed 5th in such a competitive field. Congratulations to the winning school, Nossal High.

Our highest scoring student was Sinsarut 'Q' Chitkanwong from Year 10, who received a Distinction - winning 5 out of 7 of his games - an outstanding achievement. 'Q' also qualified for the Secondary Open State Final, as well as Sebastian Tunjo and Calvin Hrang Lung, who both received a score of 4.5 and were awarded credit certificates for their strong performances.

Pakenham Secondary College also has an exceptional girls team with Mia Elliott receiving the GOLD medal and Chloe Dryden receiving the BRONZE medal at the Tournament. Both Mia and Chloe qualified for the Secondary Girls Chess State Final.

Congratulations to all of our players, who made us proud with the way they welcomed our visitors and for their outstanding behaviour and performances throughout the day.

We would like to thank Mr De Lima for his exceptional mentorship of all of our players and the organisation of not only the Regional Chess Tournament, but our intraschool tournaments and chess club.
