Mrs Bindy Abell - Sports Co-Ordinator

The cold weather is really starting to settle in, however, our students are continuing to be physically active outside which is amazing. Its great to soak in that Vitamin D in winter to try and keep away the colds and coughs. By staying active it helps our immune systems to fight off those nasties.

Last Friday the 31st of May, three of our students, Arley Crowley, Joshua Anderson and Parker Green, participated in the Gary McSweeney Cup and Rugby Union Trials in Tamworth. All three boys did a really great job and had unforgettable learning experiences of Rugby at this higher level. Congratulations boys in representing our school so well.

Fridays for Sport have been extremely successful with our Sporting Schools Grant allowing us to have Sue from Tamworth Hockey come into our school and deliver an extensive hockey program.

We are very much looking forward to our final lesson with Sue which will take place in Tamworth on the official hockey surfaces. This will give our students a real experience of what it feels like to be playing hockey on the correct surface.

  • Students will travel via bus from St Joseph’s on Friday the 28th of June to the Tamworth Hockey Centre and participate in a 2 hour session. Maybe there are some future Hockeyroos among us! Keep your eyes peeled on Compass for the permission note and information coming out next week!

In PE we have begun on our Athletics Unit. Our first lesson was our throwing events, Discus and Shot Put. The students used paper plates to practice their Discus technique before applying their skills to the real deal. Shot Put was also broken down with a number of techniques explained to help get the “put” correct instead of a throw. “Don’t forget to high five those giants kids!” top tip!

With the Athletics Carnival fast approaching (4 weeks away) we will start rolling out some programming and times so the parents can jump on board another action-packed day with their children. So Friday the 5th of July another great day to add to your calendars.
