Year 1/2 Maths

The last fortnight’s focus has been on subtraction using number lines, concrete materials such as counters, unfixed blocks and MABS to assist with the calculations. We have recorded this as a drawing and a number sentence.

In history, we have travelled the world looking at the exciting and varied celebrations and festivals. I think these eye-opening events such as La Tomatina in Spain where you are able to throw tomatoes at each other may have inspired some interest in travel!

Similarly in Religion we have discussed what makes a good celebration and what you might need to contribute to making it different to a normal day. Suggestions such as decorations, special food, special clothes, special songs, and traditions have all come to mind. We discussed the similarities and differences we found in each family and of course, other countries.

There was a lot of noise coming from the Science classroom this week where the question being asked was: Where does sound come from? The 2/3 classroom could have been the answer but not the final answer! Sound can also come from nature or again from the 2/3 classroom next week when musical instruments will be blown, hit, shaken or scraped, so beware!
