"On the 13th of May, year 11 students of Advanced English had the opportunity to visit the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta to watch and listen to key scenes of Othello and how they interrelate with circumstances of the present. Their performances were exceptional, and the complexities drawn from these scenes were both informative and insightful." - Taylor W
"The Othello excursion was a window into another perspective. It was an experience where I could see not only from an audience member’s point of view, but also live vicariously through the key character’s thought processes and emotions. It opened a world of interpretation of the play and how intricate Shakespeare’s plays were. The key themes of the play were revealed swiftly between the scenes, deepening my understanding of the characters individually and their collective role in the progression of the plot. It was not only an insightful experience it was also eye-opening and intriguing." - Lara C
"The Othello experience yesterday was in depth, intriguing, and quite enjoyable to watch. The actors and description were great and gave me a new and developed understanding of the characters, themes and reasons for 'Othello'." - Reagan A
Year 12 were treated to a similarly brilliant experience with a focus on Arthur Miller's play, 'The Crucible' - a classic drama of moral struggle set amidst the societal chaos of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. Students were able to explore their understanding of the play, deepen connections to syllabus content, and recognise the ongoing relevance of the dramatic form to reflect on contemporary society. ... It was a cold, early (and hungry) start to the day, but well worth the effort.
