Ways to Wellbeing

Walk the Talk

Last week Year 10 students were invited to participate in a pioneering program called “Walk the Talk. This is the second year our school has invited the presenters from Enlighten Education to run their unique and empowering program which builds awareness of domestic violence and women’s homelessness.

We asked two year 10 students to share their thoughts on the half day program they experienced.

The Walk the Talk ran at our school recently. This program helps to teach young teens about domestic violence and the impact it has on individuals. As well as helping us to notice the signs within a relationship and gave us guidance on what we can do. The girls had the speaker called Joy. Immediately she was very welcoming, I felt like we were safe. She told us about statistics, the mental and physical impact of DV, self-image, healthy relationships and more. We also heard about the women’s shelter, Blue Wren House, that they founded and run. I would say overall it was a really good experience. I highly recommend this program.” - Angela

“Having a positive and warm person to learn from really helped me engage in the conversations. I really enjoyed learning from Joy and getting to know and understand domestic violence. The experience was very eye opening and I feel lucky to have had a chance to be part of the day.” - Lara

Life Skills / Transition to Work

We have started the year at full speed with a First Aid and White card course already completed.

This term we have another White Card and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course coming up.

Big thanks to our training provider TCP Training for being able to bring these valuable skills to our students in school.

Nothing beats the smiles on the faces of our students when they achieve their goal and obtain their certification.
