Principal's Report
On Wednesday night last week, we had our annual Prep Information night. It was well attended with lots of people interested in the way we do things at Woori. Five of our school leaders spoke on the night and they were simply amazing. Some of the new families that hadn’t been to the school were simply blown away with what we are doing and the facilities we have.
I do want to assure parents that we are not looking to expand and get bigger, the school is not officially zoned but due to the school’s popularity it is now difficult to get into the school if you live more than 10kms away from the school. Lots of hard work has gone into the school over the previous 10 years to build its reputation to what it is today, but I’m very proud that the township of Woori Yallock has a school that the community can be proud of.

Last week Jenna Tatterson started at the school as a teacher aide and has already made some fantastic relationships with our kids. We welcome here and wish her a long association with the Woori way.
I can now also announce that we have employed Jessica Riley, Jess will work in 5/6C on a Monday and Tuesday and 5/6B on a Wednesday. We are very excited to have Jess come to Woori. She is a very experienced teacher and leader. She is currently working at Badger Creek Primary School and will start with us on Monday June 17th. Welcome Jess, we know you are going to love our staff and our parents, but particularly you are going to love the beautiful children we have here at Woori Yallock P.S.
Students across the school have been working hard in class to write persuasive pieces on a topic they are passionate about. Most of the topics are worldly and show how inquisitive our students are about the world they live in! Soon students will turn their persuasive writing piece into a speech.
The Speech Competition final for 3-6 students is on Friday the 21st of June starting at 9:10am. The final is always extremely competitive and demonstrates that public speaking is clearly one of the strengths of the school. Judges will select the best two students from either 5 or 6 to go on to represent the school in the Wandin Inter-School Speech Comp.
Remember our school turns 150 this year! 1874 - 2024
Around Woori Yallock in 1906 nearly everyone had to handle horses, but not everyone was fortunate enough to have their own animal to ride. Locals used to team up and travel what was known as RIDE AND TIE. Two men with one horse, or four men with two, would set off. One would ride for a while, then tie up the horse and walk on. The next man would catch up on foot, ride for a while then tie up and walk on. They did this to cover distances from town to town, particularly if the football and or a dance was on. Apparently around this time many would stop for breakfast on a Sunday morning at the Ockwell’s? I know we have had Ockwell’s at the school which makes me wonder about descendants.
Remember it is COOL TO BE AT SCHOOL. If students are unwell, unfortunately they do need to stay home. But every single day students are taught new concepts when they are at school. Therefore, please make sure your children are at school unless they are unwell.
Also please remember to put their illness into Compass correctly.
We are having trouble gaining access to emergency teachers, when teachers are away. I would like to let parents know that we do everything in our power to replace teachers. However, in our current climate that is not always possible. Therefore, sometimes we do have to split grades.
And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book! I’m really looking forward to another Carlton win this week against the Bombers.
