Deputy Head of Burnie Campus
Something you may not know about me, is that I love Peanuts (the comic strip, not the nuts…actually I really love the nuts too). In fact, people that know me well, will probably know that I have Snoopy on the face of my watch; every time I lift my watch up, there is a small cartoon playing of Snoopy doing something funny.
I recently shared with the staff at Burnie Campus a series of questions written by Charles Schultz (the creator of Peanuts). I have edited these questions a little to fit the Australian context.
- Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
- Name the last five Brownlow Medal winners.
- Name the last five Gold Logie winners.
- Name ten people who have ever won the Nobel Prize.
- Name the last ten movies that won the Oscar for Best Picture.
With the exception of the AFL question, which of course Mr Marmion knew, these are hard questions to answer. So how did you do?
The point is that we don’t remember the headliners of yesterday. These are not second-rate achievers; they are the best in their fields. But applause dies, awards fade, achievements are forgotten.
Charles Schultz, then goes on to ask another series of 5 questions.
- List a few teachers who aided you on your journey through school.
- Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
- Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
- Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
- Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
The people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are simply the people who care the most.
In closing, let me leave you with another cracker saying from Charles Schultz:
All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.
Have a great week
