Year 5/6 Camp
On the 24th to the 28th June, two camp groups of year 5/6 students went on a two night camp to Woodhouse Activity Centre. We felt really excited on the first day because it was really fun, despite the weather.
The weather for camp 1 wasn’t too good. It was raining most days but camp 2 had some but not as much rain as camp 1. Day 2 for camp 1 had a surprise in store: some thunder, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our time there. The highest temperature was 16°C on Thursday and the lowest was 8°C on Tuesday. The wildlife was also a main part of the camp seeing many koalas on both camps and also a kookaburra.
At camp we did lots of activities, including the mega swing, zipline, rock climbing, map and compass, billy carts, problem-solving and rope bridge. Most of us loved the mega swing, but some didn’t as they thought it was terrifying. Sometimes it was raining, but that didn’t stop us from going on with the activities. All the activities help us learn to do stuff like tying a knot, building things, or how to use a map and compass. The rope bridge was hard because you need to know how to do a knot and you need to know how high the top and bottom ropes are. In the billy carts you have to build the carts, but the carts had all the pieces that you needed to put together. When we rode it, it was so much fun. The map and compass help us to know how to use a map and a compass. We achieved getting over fears like heights, being under stress, going on the biggest zipline in South Australia, and going on a giant swing. We learned to work together, share a dorm with others, and to face our fears.
At Challenge Hill we had to go through a vast amount of obstacles. We had to hold a balloon and try to make it all the way through without popping it. The weather on camp 2 was ok with a little drizzle and if we didn’t pop the balloon we could throw it on the instructors. Each group did as many challenges as they could possibly do in 1 hour or an hour and a half. In camp 2 the weather was a bit rainy but other than that it was good. In my group, I accidentally popped one of the balloons and I got soaked (Lucas). I thought the Mouse Trap was fun and our team kept all four balloons from popping the whole time (Indie).
I would like to thank all the year 5/6 teachers, the parent volunteers and the Woodhouse staff. I would also thank the chef because he cooked really yummy food! It was an amazing time and I think everybody enjoyed it.
That's all, goodbye!
