Reconciliation Week
Naa marni,
27th May - 3rd June was National Reconciliation Week, when we reflect on Australia's true history and strive toward reconciliation and unity with First Nations people and non-Indigenous Australians.
As this fell in our swimming weeks, we celebrated this as a school during weeks 6 and 7. We kicked things off with the Aboriginal flag donuts from Vili's, helping to raise money for Aboriginal foundation, Tjindu, with a whopping 593 donuts ordered across our campus.
We continued our celebration of Aboriginal culture with a whole-school activity, coaster painting. Classes met Mrs Michael (our AET) and Miss Kylie (our ACEO) in the art room where we learned about the importance of Aboriginal symbols and their meanings, and painted our own stories on a wooden coaster to take home.
The students did a fantastic job with their design, and showed respect and enthusiasm for Aboriginal culture.
Warm regards,
Kylie Hagan
