Grade 5 - 6
Reading
Students delved into the Paul Jennings text of ‘You be the Judge’. This quirky story produced a range of new vocabulary for them to explore as well as make their own predictions of how it could possibly end, as it produces some cliffhangers and provokes some thoughts. Also, this week, students have been demonstrating their Fluency and Accuracy skills whilst reading 1:1 with their teachers, showing off all the hard work they have been doing throughout their daily fluency pairs and feedback sessions with classmates.
Writing
With our whole term focused on persuasive writing, students got the chance to participate in a structured debate and understand a real world context about where persuasive writing is most effective. We are so proud of their efforts throughout this. Furthermore, students have moved onto Explanation texts this week, understanding how this differs from a procedure and information report, honing in on their research skills and technical/tier 3 vocabulary usage.
Maths
In mathematics, students have been deepening their understanding of both mass and capacity, using appropriate units of measurement and solving real-world problems. They have been applying their knowledge to practical scenarios, developing their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning. They will have also completed their post assessment throughout this week, demonstrating all their learnt knowledge and understandings from the past 6 weeks.
