Learning is Alive at Little Pioneers

Term 2 in Kindy 4 has involved so much learning and much, much more!
In Literacy, we have been learning to identify initial sounds in words, learning a set of the alphabet letter sounds, as well as building our oral language skills through Talk 4 Writing story retelling and object-based description. In Numeracy, we have been exploring representations of numbers, counting, comparing collections, naming 2D shapes, patterning, sorting and size order. Our learning has primarily been presented and practiced through artwork and hands-on activities.
We have engaged in some exciting community events including a visit from the Local Fire Station in recognition of International Firefighters Day; wearing orange for WOW day in recognition of our SES Volunteers in our Community; Simultaneous Storytime reading and related activities; engaging in a Reconciliation Week incursion involving listening to a Dreaming story, learning Noongar words and a guess the Australian animal sound Didgeridoo game; and raising money and awareness for the Cancer Council through hosting The Biggest Morning Tea with K3, eating delicious food baked together the day before.
The most incredible adventures we have had so far have been the ones created by the minds and interests of our K4 friends. Our room has transformed into a Vet Clinic, Fire Station and Face Painting and Hair Dressing Salon. Outdoors, our interests are reflected in the Cubby House Police Station and Fire Station role play resources, and other small world and role play areas, such as Pirate Treasure Map Creating and Treasure Hunting. Our environment can change daily according to our imagination and what a wonderful imagination we have!

Kindy 3 was buzzing with activities this term designed to help settle our new students and support the formation of new friendships. Through collaborative games and play, we worked together, shared, and supported one another. New group games, such as "What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?" and “Duck, Duck, Goose” taught us how to take turns and play together harmoniously, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
We explored and revised our numeracy concepts of patterning, size, counting, colours, and shapes. Our literacy sessions introduced new nursery rhymes and phonemic awareness skills. We also introduced story mapping, where we drew and mapped out each nursery rhyme, enhancing our comprehension and storytelling skills.
We learned about our families and the important roles community helpers play. Discussions and activities helped children understand how different jobs contribute to our community's well-being, promoting their sense of identity. We also planted and cared for our vegetable gardens, worm farm and learned about sustainability and healthy eating. We are continuing to care for our gardens, and are looking forward to harvesting and tasting our produce.
Our Animal Fun FMS sessions have been much loved this term with the introduction of many new moves. Favourites included "Dog Weeing" and "Croc Hunter," which brought lots of laughter and excitement.
We participated in several community events. These included The Biggest Morning Tea, ANZAC Day, and Reconciliation Week. We had exciting incursions: a visit from Jayden from Ngalak Nidja, the Armadale Fire Station, and Dance Fit.
We are looking forward to term 3 where we will welcome more new friends and experience new adventures.
