National Reconciliation Week
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.
We began the week with a lovely prayer service led by our Year 6 Liturgy and Community Leadership group. Each class reflected on Reconciliation and what they could do to be people of justice and peace. They then committed to an action.
At St Brigid’s we commit to:
- looking after each other (Foundation)
- listening to others and be kind to everyone (1/2A)
- walking in Jesus’footsteps (2F)
- to writing a letter to include in our daily prayer that acknowledges the wrong doing of our ancestors as a way to promote reconciliation (3/4H)
- taking care of the land and learning about significant events in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture (4D)
- following the First Nations people’s example in caring for our planet. (Year 5/6)
Prayer in Pyjamas
Early Wednesday evening, our Foundation students came to school with their families in their pyjamas to learn about prayer. They had made a prayer mat before the evening and then created a prayer cube and candle to use at home for prayer. It was lovely to see the children interacting with their family members and taking the time to reflect on what prayer is, why we pray and where and how we pray. In the final prayer for the evening, our families blessed the children and the children ‘prayed twice’ (St Augustine) by singing a song with actions called “Together we pray”. Special thanks to Suzie Ripp and Lauren Eccles for attending.
WELLBEING NEWS
NCCD
What is the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)? Schools must complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) every year. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or “help” at school because of a disability. The NCCD helps government plan for the needs of students with disability. Please refer to the attachment for more information. Click here for: NCCD Parent Informaton
Golden Boot
The Golden Boot prize is still up for grabs!! Remember that the Wellbeing Reps count who walks, rides or scoots to school each Wednesday. The most active class will win the Golden Boot for their class!!
RABBIT REARING AT ST BRIGID'S
As you are aware the Foundation - Year 2 students have been raising baby kittens (rabbits) with the help of their delightful mother, Emily.
The program will come to an end shortly on the 6th of June and we will miss them dearly.
St Brigid’s families have the option of purchasing the kittens if they wish. However, please note that the kittens will need to return to the farm for a few weeks before they are weaned off Emily. If you do wish to purchase one or more you will have to drive to Gembrook to collect them after this has occurred.
Cost: $60 for one or $100 for two.
It is suggested that you purchase at least two for company.
Rabbit type: Lop Rabbits
The company we used for this experience is called Animals on the Move. They have a variety of hutch options etc available for purchase as well, if you are interested. Please visit their website for more information and contact details.
https://animalsonthemove.com.au/
If you would like to purchase one of our adorable kittens please email Suzie Ripp on sripp@sbmord.catholic.edu.au to organise a time to visit them at St Brigid’s and select your kitten/s. There are 5 to choose from.
Once you have selected your kitten/s your contact details and a photo of the kitten you would like to purchase will be forwarded to Animals on the Move and they will contact you once they have been weaned of their mum.
