OPPS CARNIVAL

On Saturday, our school community had an absolutely fabulous time at the OPPS Carnival! It was wonderful to see so many students, families, and local community members come together to enjoy the rides, delicious food trucks, and fantastic market stalls. A highlight for many students was the dunk tank, where they had a blast dunking their teachers!

A massive thank you to our Parents and Friends Group for their incredible effort in making this event possible. The level of organisation and dedication required for an event of this scale is enormous, and we truly appreciate each and every committee member for their hard work in creating unforgettable experiences for our students.

If you’d like to be part of our Parents and Friends Committee, we’re hosting a coffee and tea afternoon just before assembly at 2:00 pm on Friday, 21st March. We would love to see more parents join the committee and continue supporting these fantastic events for our students!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STUDENT LEADERS

Last Friday at assembly, our 2025 student leaders were presented with their leadership badges. Our student leaders play an important role within our school, including:

  • Leading our school assemblies each Friday
  • Representing our school at various community events
  • Supporting younger students through weekly Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings

Additionally, they attend a leadership meeting each week to develop their leadership skills and plan their responsibilities.

Please welcome our 2025 student leaders:

School Captains: Mackenzie Sleep and Tom Shadbolt

Cultural and Community Engagement Leaders: Alyssa Dean and Kobii Cuskelly

Marrum House Captains: Hannah Patel and Alek Tomic

Bunjil House Captains: Alex Jones and Nicholas Lazar

STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

On Tuesday, our student leaders attended their first Student Leadership Conference with Mrs McEachern at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference was run by GRIP Leadership and focused on key leadership themes such as:

  • Being a voice for others
  • Leading by example
  • Supporting and helping others
  • Taking initiative to meet the school’s needs
  • Creating inclusive and supportive school environments
  • Prioritising an impactful leadership project for the year

It was an inspiring and engaging day, and our leaders are excited to bring their new ideas back to school!

NEW COUNTRY FLAGS

Recently, our school captains wrote a letter to Emma Vulin, our local MP, requesting new flags for our school flagpoles.

On Monday, 3rd March, Emma Vulin visited OPPS to present our students with the new flags. We look forward to proudly raising them on our flagpoles very soon!

VISIT FROM THE MAYOR

On Friday the 28th of February, our Year 4 students were lucky enough to have our local Mayor, Cr Jack Kowarzik, come to visit. Linking with our Civics & Citizenship unit, Cr Jack Kowarzik gave a presentation outlining his role as the Mayor of Cardinia and the responsibilities of the local council. Our students did a fantastic job showing respect throughout the presentation and asked insightful questions to deepen their understanding.

HARMONY DAY

Harmony Day is coming up in Week 8, and we will be celebrating with a school parade in the gym on Thursday, 20th March, from 9:00am.

On this day, all students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress to celebrate the diversity within our community. Parents and younger siblings are also welcome to dress in their cultural attire and join the celebration! If your child does not have cultural dress, they are encouraged to wear orange, as it is the official colour of Harmony Day, symbolising inclusivity, respect, and belonging.

During the parade, students will also have the opportunity to perform or present something from their culture. If your child would like to participate—whether through a cultural dance, a short speech, or another form of presentation—please check the recent Compass post and email OPPS by the deadline.

We look forward to celebrating this special day together!

PREP PHOTOS

On Wednesday, 19th March, our photography company will be on-site to take photos of our 2025 Prep cohort, new students, and new staff.

For our Prep families, this is not the official school photo day—these photos are taken for Compass records only.
