Level 5
As we progress through this term, we are excited to share updates on our students’ learning, upcoming events, and some wonderful celebrations within our school community. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.
Celebrations from the week
We are thrilled to share that Level 5 have successfully completed their NAPLAN testing, and we commend the hard work and dedication shown by everyone involved.
This week, students took part in the first of two tennis clinics, led by Ben and Mo from HE Parker Tennis Club. It was a fun and rewarding way to wrap up NAPLAN, with good weather enhancing the experience. During the clinic, students focused on developing their hand-eye coordination, balance, and teamwork through a variety of interactive drills. We look forward to further enhancing these skills in the upcoming session!
In Life Education, students took part in the first of two sessions, focusing on health, safety, and wellbeing. This valuable program is designed to equip students with essential life skills and deepen their understanding of their connections to others and the world around them.
Literacy
In Reading, we have been exploring key figures in the Federation of Australia. Students have recently presented their research on these historical figures, demonstrating their understanding of their impact on Federation. We have now shifted our focus to persuasive writing, where students are analysing the techniques writers use to persuade readers, such as emotional appeals, strong arguments, and rhetorical questions. This will help students develop essential skills for crafting their own persuasive texts.
In Writing, we have been focusing on persuasive writing, with students participating in a class debate on whether or not we should have a class pet. Students researched relevant information and crafted their arguments to effectively present their point of view.
Numeracy
In Mathematics, we are focusing on operations with decimals. Students are practicing strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to strengthen their understanding and improve their skills with decimal operations.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry topic is 'Identity' as we look at the Federation of Australia, the roles of key figures and the way immigration has shaped our lives. Students have also been exploring the systems of law, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, and the history of migration, gaining a deeper understanding of how these elements have shaped Australia's identity.
In our Respectful Relationships program, we are focusing on emotional literacy, with our Friendology lessons aimed at identifying personal strengths and overcoming negative thoughts. Students have explored the "Zones of Regulation" and discussed strategies they can use when they find themselves in each zone, supporting them to recognise and respond to their emotions.
