From The Team

As we near the end of term, we look back to the beginning of 2025 and think about how our students started the new school year. We are so proud of the learning they have been doing in the different subject areas, but the manner in which they continue to establish their routines, work collaboratively, and build new and strong friendships is wonderful to see. Many are increasing their confidence in class and developing their leadership qualities. We certainly look forward to this growth continuing as the year progresses.

Thank you to the families who attended the Twilight Sports afternoon last week. The student leaders did an amazing job of explaining and running the activities, and everyone participated with a positive attitude and had lots of fun. We thank you for supporting the school and joining us in community activities such as this.

As this is our last newsletter for the term, we wish all our families a Happy Easter and a safe, enjoyable school holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 2!

Harmony Day

From Monday the 17th of March to Friday the 21st, we celebrated Harmony Week with a series of exciting activities. Our first Harmony Week activity was a visit to Scoresby Superstars, where we created colourful flags that represented who we are. Next, we hosted a special Harmony Week Breakfast Club, serving up delicious pancakes, fresh fruit, Milo, and more. We wrapped up the week with a Harmony Week assembly on Thursday, the 20th of March. The Heart Captains delivered a speech about the importance of Harmony Day before leading the highly anticipated Harmony Week parade. Each class had the opportunity to showcase their cultural or orange clothing, and everyone proudly displayed the flags they had been working on throughout the week. It was a fantastic celebration that brought our school community together, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Twilight Sports

On the 20th of March, our school held its annual Twilight Sports event, and it was an unforgettable evening! The School Captains took charge, running all the activities smoothly and making sure everyone had a great time. There was a fantastic mix of games, including tunnel ball, sack races, egg-and-spoon races, vortex throwing, rebound net, soccer, rob the nest, and an exciting ball-launching challenge. To keep everyone energised, there were delicious sausages, soft drinks and icy Zooper Doopers. As the event came to a close, the whole school lined up for the year level races, with students of all ages giving it their best shot. The final race was a special moment just for the Year 6s, marking one of their last big school events. The weather couldn’t have been better, with clear skies and a great atmosphere. But the highlight was watching the Preps race each other with enthusiasm and huge smiles!

Winter Sport

Soccer

On Friday, the 21st of March, the Year 5/6 Winter Sport soccer teams headed to Kings Park to compete against other schools. The boys’ team was coached by Miss Harper, while the girls’ team was coached by Raelene. We played against schools such as Bayswater Primary School, Knox Central Primary School, and Fairhills Primary School. The boys' team had a mixed day of results, winning two games against Bayswater PS, drawing one against Knox Central PS, and losing three—two against Fairhills PS, and one against Knox Central PS. Fairhills proved to be a particularly strong team, and despite our best efforts, we couldn’t secure a win against them. The girls’ team also gave it their all, winning one game against Knox Central PS but unfortunately losing the other four matches. Despite the tough competition, the team showed great sportsmanship and agreed that all the schools we played against were very strong. The boys’ team included Hayden, Amir, Ryker, Bodhi, Tommy, Jaxon, Arian, James and Paravvir, with Jesse and Harlan absent on the day. The girls’ team included Hayley, Emily, Bella, Angela, Alyssa, Alisha, Izzy, Alisha, Aria, Phoebe and Hannah. Unfortunately, no one from our Winter Sports soccer teams qualified for the Division competition. In the final match, Fairhills PS faced off against Knox Central PS. Although we didn’t make it to the next stage, it was an exciting and enjoyable experience, and everyone had a fantastic time competing against other schools!

Tee Ball

On the 21st of May, the Year 5/6 students participated in the Winter Sports competition, including the girls' tee ball event. When we arrived, we had about 15 minutes before our first match against Heritage College. Since there were no other girls' tee ball teams, we played three games against Heritage College, and won all of them, with a final score of 40–20. Our girls' tee ball team made it to the Division level! As there weren’t enough players, we had two Year 4 students - Sienna and Alyrah - join our team. Everyone played exceptionally well, and we were thrilled to qualify for the next stage. Alison coached the girls' team, while Mr Purdon coached the boys. Although the boys didn’t make it to division, they still played amazingly well!

Netball

On the 21st of March, all the Year 5/6s participated in Winter Sports. Our netball teams competed at the Knox Regional Netball Complex, and it was an incredible experience! The mixed netball team put on a fantastic performance, winning four out of six games - well done, team! The girls' netball team was unstoppable, winning every game they played and securing 1st place, which is an amazing achievement! Their hard work and determination have earned them a spot in the next round, where they will compete at the Division level. All our netballers did a terrific job, showing outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day. We are extremely proud of every player who took part. The weather was also a mix of light rain and sunshine, but that didn’t stop us from having an amazing time on the court!
