From The Team

It’s hard to believe that we are already near the end of Term1.  The Year 3/4s have continued with their wonderful Term 1 with another very busy fortnight.  In the past couple of weeks we have participated in Crazy Hair Day, Harmony Week, Twilight Sports, Swimming, Scoresby Superstars, and the Year 3s have completed NAPLAN.

First of all, congratulations to all the Grade 3 students who completed their final NAPLAN tests last week. The hard work preparing for NAPLAN was certainly demonstrated by the calm approach our students had to the tests. Well done!

Last Tuesday, students came to school with their craziest hairstyles as part of the Student Representative Council (SRC) fundraiser for The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. It was fantastic to see so many amazing and creative hairstyles, from cupcakes and yoghurts, to metallic hair colour and cardboard tube extensions!!

We also celebrated Harmony Week last week where we learnt about acceptance and belonging in our Scoresby Superstar groups.  In addition, students participated in a whole level team building activity, and also took part in the assembly parade on Thursday dressed in orange or clothes that represented their cultural background. It was wonderful to see students participating in Harmony Week and showing their HEART values to each other.

As if that wasn’t enough for last week, we also had our Twilight Sports event on Wednesday. This was a lovely opportunity for students to come together in their houses and participate in a variety of fun sports activities. They even had the chance to enjoy a yummy sausage sizzle on the night.

This week students commenced their swimming program which has been going very smoothly, with students getting used to changes in their timetables and routines. Swimming is a very important skill, and those participating have the opportunity to learn about safety around water, and improve their physical and mental well-being. We remind families that students should arrive at school with their bathers under their uniform, and bring a small bag with a towel, undies, thongs and goggles (optional). In addition, next Thursday 3rd April, they will participate in a ‘Clothes Swim’ day when they will need to bring a plastic bag with a short sleeve t-shirt and shorts to put on when they are at the pool.

Finally, to ease congestion in the corridor after school, we ask all parents and carers to wait for their children under the stage area or at another convenient spot in the yard, rather than inside. This will enable all students to be able to do their end-of-day pack-up calmly and without distraction. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this.

We hope you all have a restful Easter break, and we look forward to a fun Term 2 packed with learning.
