From The Team

Hello our wonderful Year 1/2 families!

How crazy to think that we are in Week 9 of Term 1. There is only one more week until we are officially on school holidays. The last fortnight has been a lot of fun! We have been very busy writing our narratives, learning about capacity, investigating positive affirmations, coming to school with crazy hair, celebrating Harmony Week, and have started our swimming program at Knox Leisureworks.

This term in Year 1/2 we have developed our classroom learning communities and established clear expectations and routines. We have investigated narratives in both Reading and Writing. We have looked at both fantasy and real life characters and settings. In Maths, we have practised our counting, learnt about Place Value and investigated measuring length and capacity with lots of fun hands-on activities, including measuring the length of dinosaur footprints and wild animals outside. In Integrated Studies, we have learnt about our families and shared these with our classmates, and we have learnt about being a ‘Friendship Ninja’ as part of our Friendology program. Lastly, we have practised changing our mindset and using positive affirmations to support our positive thinking when tackling different challenges.

It has been a fabulous term and we are so proud of our students and all of the hard work they have put in so far. We can’t wait to see what Term 2 brings!

Late arrivals

In Year 1/2, we have noticed an increasing number of late arrivals in the mornings, and we would like to remind all families of the importance of being at school on time each day.

Learning begins promptly at 9.00am, with 20 minutes of our Write2Read program (an intensive phonics program), followed by 20 minutes of our Rainbow Maths program, which builds essential numeracy skills. These sessions are crucial for your child’s progress, and arriving late means they are missing out on key learning time. Additionally, a late arrival can make it harder for your child to settle into the school day smoothly.

To ensure your child gets the best start each day, please make every effort to have them at school on time. Being punctual not only supports their learning but also helps them develop important lifelong habits.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

On the holidays…

Kate: On the holidays, I am looking forward to spending time catching up with friends and family and taking Liam to play at some new parks. We will also be taking our dog Charlie on lots of walks.

Jordyn: On the holidays, I am very excited to spend lots of time relaxing! I am planning on going away for the night with my partner Giordan, catching up with some friends for dinner, and will spend Easter with my family.

Jarren: On the holidays I will be looking after two puppies and also doing a lot of moving, cleaning, wood stacking and general yakka.

Jenny: I am going to spend time visiting my family and going out shopping. I will be catching up with some friends and will be going on lots of little walks!

Donna: Over the holidays, my family and I are very excited to be going away on a holiday to Port Douglas in North Queensland for a week. We have a trip planned to spend the day on the Great Barrier Reef whilst we are there. I hope everyone has a lovely break and has an enjoyable Easter.

Tania: Over the holidays, I am planning to spend lots of time relaxing and going for walks. I am going away to Stawell to watch my son compete in the Stawell Gift.

We hope everyone has a wonderful break and a lovely Easter! We look forward to seeing all of our wonderful students back at school on Tuesday 22nd April 2025.

What We Are Learning

Reminders

  • Swimming: We have a clothes swim day next Thursday 3rd April. As part of the Swimming & Water Safety program, students will practise swimming in clothes. They will need to wear their bathers as normal, and bring a t-shirt and pair of shorts with them in a plastic bag. More information about this will be sent home next week.

  • Communication folders: Please remember to bring these to and from school each day. We really appreciate your support with this.

  • High Frequency Words: Help your child to practise their high frequency words each night. They are stored in their blue display folder in their Communication Folder.

  • Yellow Reading Log: Record your child’s nightly reading. The students are very excited to be receiving their rewards when they reach the main checkpoints!

Crazy Hair Day

On Tuesday 18th March, the students at Scoresby Primary School came to school with lots of different bright, fun and wonderfully crazy hairstyles as they took part in Crazy Hair Day to support the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Harmony Day

On Thursday 20th March, Scoresby Primary School came together to celebrate Harmony Day, embracing the message that "everyone belongs". Students and staff proudly wore orange or cultural attire and participated in a wonderful Harmony Day parade at our assembly.

Throughout Harmony Week, all of our students participated in activities that focused on inclusivity, respect and cultural appreciation. It was a fantastic celebration of the different backgrounds that make our school so special.

Twilight Sports

Our Twilight Sports event on Wednesday, 19th March, was a huge success! It was great to see all of our Year 1/2 students wearing their house colours and showing great enthusiasm as they participated in a variety of sports and activities. Thank you to our wonderful families who joined us and helped make the event so memorable!

Swimming

Our Year 1/2 students have made a fantastic start to their annual swimming program at Knox Leisureworks! They have been busy building confidence in the water, learning important swimming skills, and establishing great routines. Most importantly, they are having lots of fun!
