Rochester Primary School Joins Clean Up Australia Day!
On Friday, the 28th of February, the entire Rochester Primary School community came together to make a difference as we participated in Clean Up Australia Day. Students from all year levels rolled up their sleeves to help tidy up our school grounds and surrounding areas, showing their commitment to caring for the environment and making our town a cleaner, greener place.
Armed with gloves and rubbish bags, students worked in teams to collect litter, sort recyclables, and remove waste from parks, footpaths, and public spaces. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and teamwork as they took part in this important initiative.
This initiative was a fantastic opportunity for students to put their learning into action. A huge thank you to our teachers, staff, and volunteers who helped make the day a success.
By working together, we’re showing that every action counts towards a cleaner and healthier future. Well done to all our students for their hard work and community spirit!
Exciting Learning in Grade 2!
It has been a busy and exciting start to the term in Grade 2, with students diving into a range of engaging learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum.
In Reading, Writing, and Maths, we have been setting up the Workshop Model, where students learn new skills through short, focused lessons before applying them in independent and small-group work. This approach helps build confidence and allows students to develop their skills at their own pace. In Writing, we have begun planning and drafting our own narrative stories, exploring characters, settings, and exciting events.
In Maths, students have been investigating place value, deepening their understanding of how numbers work and building strong foundational skills. We have also been practising our daily Heggerty phonemic awareness activities, which help strengthen our reading and spelling skills.
As part of our Resilience Program, we have been learning about our emotions—recognising different feelings and exploring strategies to help manage them in different situations. This has been a valuable part of our learning, helping students build emotional awareness and social skills.
We also had a fantastic time taking part in a tennis session with Milo, where students practised their coordination, movement, and teamwork while having lots of fun on the court!
It’s been a wonderful start to the term, and we’re looking forward to seeing even more growth and learning in the coming weeks. Well done, Grade 2!
Friday Clubs – Fun, Engagement, and Community!
Last Friday, our students had an amazing time participating in a range of exciting club activities! From bike riding and scooters to technology exploration, basketball clinics run by high school students, and delicious cooking sessions, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
It was fantastic to see students engaging with different staff members, interacting with peers across year levels, and even connecting with the wider community. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and we can't wait for the next session!
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making Friday clubs such a success. We look forward to seeing even more students discovering new passions and having fun in the weeks to come!
