Volunteering for NASA

We’re excited to share that Beaufort Secondary College has been chosen as one of only 35 schools in Victoria to take part in a very special science program called Growing Beyond Earth – a project that’s linked directly to NASA.

This is a fantastic chance for our students to get involved in real science experiments that could help astronauts grow food in space! Students will be using a special plant-growing system, similar to the ones used on the International Space Station, to test how different edible plants grow in space-like conditions. Participating students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from NASA scientists along the way, as well as attend a formal symposium in Melbourne at the end of the program.

At the conclusion of the program, the data our students collect will be sent to NASA scientists, where it will be used to guide future attempts to grow food in space.

The program will run during Term 2 and Term 3, and is open to students in all year levels

Students who’d like to take part can sign up by filling out an Expression of Interest form, available from the General Office

**Please note, the program is capped at 30 students.
