Student Leaders Conference 2025
Jude Shields, Head of Senior Primary
What does it mean to be a leader? On Monday, 17th February, student leaders from 20 Christian Primary schools across Victoria gathered at DCC to explore this very question. The 2025 Student Leaders Conference brought together young leaders to explore what it means to embody and practise Christ-centered leadership and discover how they can influence the world around them.
Throughout the day, students participated in insightful sessions, interactive activities, and meaningful discussions, all designed to equip them with the confidence and skills to lead with faith and purpose in their Primary schools. The conference also provided a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow student leaders, share experiences, and gain inspiration from a range of fantastic speakers.
Some thoughts from DCC student leaders:
"The Leadership Conference was brilliant. I really enjoyed the activities and the speakers."
"It was such a great opportunity to learn how to be a great leader at the Leadership Conference. I have learnt so much from all the fantastic speakers today. It was AMAZING!"
“I loved it all, and the speakers were amazing! It was such a great experience!"
"I had the time of my life making friends and meeting new people."
It was a pleasure to host this exciting event and see young leaders from around the State being equipped with the vision and passion to lead with integrity and faith.
Year 5 Retreat: Made in His Image
Harry Foster, Year 5 Team Leader
As part of our Being Human Health Inquiry unit, Year 5 students participated in a special Retreat Day onsite at the college. Throughout this unit, students have explored the different aspects of being human - social, emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual - engaging in various activities to better understand what it means to be a whole child.
This retreat, titled Made in His Image, provided an opportunity for students to pause, reflect, and deepen their relationship with God. The day began with a devotion at the cross, followed by a peaceful time of solo reflection around the farm.
Students then gathered in gender groups to discuss the world’s expectations of boys and girls, comparing these to what the Bible teaches. Through these discussions, they learned the importance of discernment in today’s world and were reminded that they are known and loved by God, who made them wonderfully. We concluded the day by sharing a BBQ lunch in community. It was a meaningful and enjoyable day for all.
Year 3 Excursion: ACMI
Bryce Morgan, Year 3 Team Leader
Over the last two Tuesdays, our very enthusiastic Year 3s got some hands-on learning at the ACMI museum in Federation Square. The students were excited and full of chatter as the buses drove into the city. We used the museum's special, professional software and camera rigs to make stop-motion animations. The students then had a fun play at the Birrarung Marr playground before having a tour of the museum.
We looked at the amazing history of Australian film, from shadow puppets right up to the modern technology we use today. Yes, that includes video games – which of course were a big hit! We are so thankful to all our wonderful parent helpers and Learning Support staff who blessed us and who made this excursion possible.
We praise God for the excellent learning opportunity and our trip's safety.
