Hello from our students and teachers
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
It has been a fantastic start to the year in Grade 2/3. Students have settled into the classroom routines wonderfully and are successfully demonstrating the skills of how to be focussed and engaged learners.
This term students have been developing their narrative text writing skills focussing on structure, ideas, and word choice. They have been practising how to organise their stories to have a clear beginning, middle, and end, ensuring a logical flow of events. Students have enjoyed using picture prompts to create a story idea and ignite their imagination. There has been a strong emphasis on choosing words that will engage the reader, allowing them to visualise the text they are reading. This learning has supported the grade 3 students to prepare for the writing component of NAPLAN which they completed this week.
Students commenced the term revising and expanding their understanding of place value by exploring the value of digits in numbers up to 1,000 for Grade 2 students and up to 10,000 for Grade 3 students. Students have been recognizing and building numbers, understanding the concepts of ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands, and applying this knowledge to compare and order numbers. In addition to this, students have learnt about 3D shapes adding the terms vertices, edges and faces to their maths vocabulary. Lastly, over the past week students have explored data and graphing. They have been creating questions, collecting data from their peers, and have then displayed their data visually using a bar graph.
Over the term students have excited to learn about Australia and have been exploring the country’s unique geography, animals, culture, and history. They have been supported by Kelsie's 5/6 class of the past few weeks as they learn how to use the computers to research information and present it in various ways. This engaging unit broadens students' awareness of the country in which they live and helps them appreciate the rich diversity and culture of our nation.
