Mr Ray Hickey

Ash Wednesday and Lent

Yesterday we gathered as a faith community for the Ash Wednesday Mass, which marks the beginning of the Catholic Church’s season of Lent. At the Mass we were signed with an ash cross on our foreheads. This represents that we are sorry for our actions that may have been hurtful to others and that we want to become better people.

Lent is a 40 day period of preparation and reflection, it is a time to remember jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

During Lent we are encouraged to focus upon:

  • Almsgiving, doing good things for others
  • Fasting, making a personal sacrifice by giving up a favourite food or activity
  • Praying, growing closer to God through formal and informal prayers, making time to spend with God

As in previous years, we will again be holding our Caritas FUNdraising Fridays, where the different levels organise a fun way of raising money to donate to Caritas Australia. Details about the FUNdraising events will be in next week’s newsletter.

Pope Francis' Prayer Intention for March

Every year, Pope Francis publishes his prayer intentions for each month. Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray this prayer. Thank you.

For families in crisis

Let us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences.  Amen

Please remember Pope Francis in your prayers
