Halogen Young Leader's Day

On Monday 3rd March our school leader's attended the Halogen Young Leader's Day at the Convention Centre in the city.

Here's what they had to say:

Oli - "Thomas Duncan-Watt is a young screenwriter and author, awarded for many shows such as "Space Nova," to "Home and Away." Next we saw Catherine Laga'aia who is a young actress starring as Moana in the live action movie that comes out July next year. After Cathrine we saw Emma Mckeon an Olympic swimmer with 11 Olympic Games medals and 20 Commonwealth Games medals. She is the greatest Australian swimmer. Not only is she the most decorated Olympian, but one of the best athletes the world has ever seen. Finally we saw AFL player Majak Daw who migrated from Sudan to Australia and got drafted to the AFL playing over 50 games for North Melbourne making him the first sudanese-Australian to ever play AFL."

Sam - "We got to meet the speakers, get special pins, dance and of course eat our lunch. Meeting the speakers was probably the highlight of the breaks. We would get to talk to them for about a second or two before we would take photos with them and move on to something else. We got to meet Catherine Laga'aia and Emma McKeon. Getting the special pins was a side mission. They were $5 and were small gold pins with a Halogen logo in the middle. The dancing was run by a crew they had on stage that would do dances with the audience and even let some kids on stage to show off their dance moves. For lunch they had stairs you could sit on down outside that was a good spot until some wasps swarmed us. "

Aaliyah - "The highlight was seeing amazing and super cool presentations with all the schools pitching in and not scared to dance, sing and clap to the songs. Everyone asked so many questions and Thomas, Catherine, Majak and Emma answered them so perfectly and hearing their backstories was amazing and inspiring. Hearing what they went through and what they did to get to where they are now is so incredible. I know the School Leaders next year will love what we saw and loved the activities. They were incredible!"

Brayden - We learnt about leadership and how failure is just a step closer to success. We also learnt about the importance of not giving up and how to always follow your dreams. Majak Daw spoke about that no matter what your upbringing is, you should always try your hardest and do your best. The thing that stood out to me the most from the day was that is was memorable and if I could do it again, I certainly would.
