Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Wow! What a week in the Inquiry Centre. We have had a jam-packed week even with the Melbourne Cup day holiday on Tuesday. The Grade 1 late stay was a fantastic night with our Grade 1 students enjoying games, activities and dinner with their friends and teachers after school.

In Literacy, students learnt about paraphrasing non-fiction texts by finding key words and thinking about how to put sentences into their own words rather than copying from a text. Students realised how this makes us better readers and shows our understanding of what we have read.

In Writing, we made our own brochures as part of our learning about information texts. Students chose their own topics to write about. Some popular favourites were Pokemon, their school and Minecraft. Student thought about what information needed to be included to inform their readers and worked on publishing their brochures carefully to make sure they looked interesting.

In Maths, students looked at capacity and informal units of measurement. A highlight for the week was a challenge where students had to pour water into five cups using different strategies to ensure each cup had the same amount of water. The students really enjoyed pouring water from bottles into the cups and checking to see if they were all the same.

We are looking forward to the Grade 2 sleepover this Friday!
