Social Justice News:

Zooper Dooper Fridays are back!

Commencing this Friday 18th November, our Social Justice Leaders will be selling Zooper Doopers at lunchtime on Fridays for $1.00 each.

All proceeds from the sale of the Zooper Doopers will go towards supporting the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre (ASRC) in Footscray. The ASRC assists people who have had to leave their country to find a safer place to live. The centre provides people with food to eat and also gives them the opportunity to see a doctor or other health care workers if needed.

We thank you for supporting us as our school community lives out the Catholic Social Teachings listed below by assisting people in need and supporting the work of the ASRC.

What is justice for the poor?

Caring for those who are less well off is everyone’s responsibility. Preferential care should be shown to vulnerable and marginalised people, whose needs and rights are given special attention in God’s eyes.

How is dignity upheld?

The dignity of every person, independent of ethnicity, creed, gender, sexuality, age or ability, is the foundation of Catholic Social Teaching. No human being should have their dignity or freedom compromised. Poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice make it impossible to live a life commensurate with this dignity.

What is ‘true community’?

The common good is reached when we work together to improve the wellbeing of people in our society and the wider world. The rights of the individual to personal possessions and community resources must be balanced with the needs of the disadvantaged and dispossessed.

A Prayer for People Seeking Asylum

Lord,

No one is a stranger to you

and no one is ever far from your loving care.

In your kindness watch over refugees

and seekers of asylum,

those separated from their loved ones,

those who are lost,

and those who have been exiled

from their homes.

Bring them safely to the place

where they long to be,

and help us always to show your kindness

to strangers and those in need.

Amen.
