From the Classroom

Grade 5/6

The Grade 5/6s have had a busy couple of weeks. We all enjoyed our fantastic ‘holiday’ in Anglesea at the YMCA Recreation Camp. It was jammed pack full of YMCA staff led activities and they were all well received by the kids. They included; Hut building, Radio Rogaine, Crate Climb, Giant Swing, Archery, Mountain Biking, Vertical Climb, skateboarding, Bush Cooking and others. Many of the activities were ‘Challenge by Choice’ and it was fantastic to watch the kids push themselves out of their comfort zones. We had a surfing lesson on the first afternoon, from Go Ride a Wave. We were extremely lucky with the weather until Thursday lunchtime. Even then, the rain didn’t dampen the fun.

The following week was concert week. The concept this year was very different to previous years. The Junction Hotel stage provided a wonderful setting for our concert. The kids performed brilliantly to a very appreciative audience. Congratulations to the Grade 6 students on the delivery of their speeches on the night of the concert. It’s not easy speaking in front of a crowd, especially when it’s 500 people. They did a great job!

Next week we have some of our Grade Sixes heading to GSSC for a transition morning as well as a visit from Notre Dame staff to speak to the kids about their transition to their school. It’s hard to believe that the year is nearly over.
