Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

2023 Student Leadership

During this week, the Year 5 students had the opportunity to present themselves as candidates for the roles of 2023 School Captains.  The students presented their speeches to the student and teacher group, from which point voting took place.  A shortlist is then developed from the voting process, with these students participating in an interview process next week, which will be led by the current school captains.  The speeches were of a high quality and all students who participated should be very proud of their efforts.

Further updates will be provided as we move through the process. 

Preparing for 2023

As we work towards preparing for the 2023 school year, there are a couple of key dates I would like to highlight.

Wednesday 30th November - From 6.00-7.00 pm there will be Parent Information Session for the 2023 Foundation families.

Friday 2nd December - During this student-free day, the Year level teaching teams will be meeting to plan and prepare for Term 1, 2023.  This will include new staff to the school.

Monday 5th December -  2023 Foundation students will have an opportunity to meet their teacher.

Tuesday 13th December - Year 6 students attending a government high school will visit their school for a transition day.  At HPS, remaining students (current F-5) will have the opportunity to meet with their 2023 class teacher.  

It is very important to note that a significant amount of work has taken place to develop the class lists and the staffing profile for 2023. Any feedback shared from families has been taken into consideration and actioned where possible, and appropriate.  Once the classes and teachers are determined, we will not be in a position to make changes to arrangements.  Therefore any communication requesting changes to class or teacher will not be considered.  Your understanding with this matter is appreciated. 

Curriculum Day - Friday 2nd December - SAC Day Program

Please be reminded that there will be another curriculum day (student-free) this term, to be held on Friday 2nd December. 

The school will be running a day program through the School Age Care facility on this day.

HPS Family Christmas Carols - Thursday 1st December 

We are looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday 1st December for the family Christmas Carols. 

Please note that due to privacy permissions, taking photos of the performing groups will not be permitted.  Your understanding and support with this matter is greatly appreciated. 

Other important points to note are as follows:

• Gate 5 (Darebin St) will be open from 5.00pm
• BBQ and cake stall from 5.30-6.30pm.
• Children will need to be sitting with their families, unless they are performing.
• Relaxed seating on Tiger Turf area (BYO picnic rug or camping chairs)
• In the case of wet weather, we will postpone to Thursday 8th December.

• 2023 class list development

Term 1 2023 - start dates.

Please note the following arrangements for the beginning of the 2023 school year:

• Friday 27th January - Curriculum Day # 1 (no school for students)
• Monday 30th January - Curriculum Day # 2 (no school for students)
• Tuesday 31st January - Term 1 begins for all students (Foundation students have a staggered start and early finish on this day)
