Wellbeing News

We are very busy this month with activities supporting the mental health of our entire school community: continuing our recognition of National Mental Health Month and building ongoing connections promoting positive wellbeing for everyone.

After a couple of years of cancellations, our students were once again given the opportunity to perform in a Music Festival at the Rivergum PAC. The theme of this year’s festival was History: our students created history last term in developing the very first Monash SDS school song, which they proudly sang to the excited audience at the Festival. While having fun, these students are also practicing skills in recognizing their personal strengths, problem solving, positive coping at being in a new and unfamiliar environment, and managing nerves and excitement, linking with our theme of self-regulation.

Some of our Primary students were also introduced to the AFL Play Program this week, an opportunity to be physically active, practice following different instructions and working collaboratively in a team. Our students are encouraged to recognize situations in which they need to seek help, how to identify trusted people to ask, and to be willing when others require their help.

We also celebrated our wonderful, hardworking teachers – recognizing World Teachers Day with enjoyable Well-Being Activities all week. The Parent Group wanted to show their gratitude to our staff. They organised an amazing morning tea with the support of our school families and surrounded the teachers with notes of appreciation for all the things they do for the students in our school.

Showing kindness and appreciation are very special Wellbeing traits practiced by our entire school community.
