Secondary 11-12

Endangered Animals

Year 11/12 students have been learning about endangered animals over the last 3 weeks. Each student has chosen a different endangered animal to research and will make a presentation to the class informing the students about their chosen animal and what we can do to help save them from extinction.

This Friday 7th August students took part in an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. While at the Zoo, students learnt how Zoos Victoria is helping to fight extinction and were given the chance to see some of the wonderful animals up close. Students mapped out their journey to the Zoo to ensure they could visit as many animals as possible on the day. “Must see” animals were the escaping Orang-utan, the Lions and the Penguins.  -  Steele Denman

Boots For All

Concord Applied Learning students have been working with Boots for All for the past 3 years. The students clean, polish, tag and pack boots that are sent to disadvantaged kids. They also have the opportunity to work in the Boots for All retail shop and socialise with corporate volunteers and people from the community. The shop is located in Shelbourne Rd, Briar Hill at the Storage King facility opposite Purdy’s Furniture. It has a fantastic selection of new and second-hand sporting goods and clothes at very reasonable prices. They have children’s and adult stock. If you need some new sport shoes, clothing or equipment please pop in and have a look. Staff are very friendly and the organisation does a brilliant job of helping disadvantaged kids get involved in sport.

You can also donate your old boots by sending them in to Concord School.

Canteen's Spud Day

Last week’s Spud Day was a great success, with Canteen students and staff working very hard to get those spuds out to classrooms on time. Special thanks to Brad Smith for assisting Sue in the morning, Steele for extra grating help and a few other VCAL students for helping deliveries.

Students had a production line going to make sure all the orders were filled out correctly. The logistics of making to order and delivering over 150 spuds around the Grimshaw Campus was amazing. Our canteen students stepped up to the challenge and we hope everyone enjoyed their spud. We enjoyed trying a new food experience in canteen.

Keep an eye out for another special canteen day next term!
