From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Welcome to our last newsletter for Term 1. Whilst it is a relatively short term, it is an incredibly busy one, with lots going on in the College.

Our college Principal, Ms Kerrie Dowsley is currently in Vietnam meeting the parents of our international students, to give progress on their progress and to gain feedback on how they are settling in. This is a very important aspect of our International Students Program.

Swimming Carnival

On Friday, 2 March all of our Year 7 to 9 students, plus lots of Year 10 - 12 students ventured to St Albans Swimming Pool for our annual swimming carnival. It was a great day, with lots of participation and enjoyment. Well done to Mr Robert Lakovski, Sports Coordinator, and Ms Piera Biondi and Mr Eli Goldbaum, House Coordinators, for their excellent running of the event.

Subsequent to this our selected swimming team competed, and won, the Keilor District swimming event. Well done to all involved!

Year 7 Open evening

The Year 7, 2019 open evening for parents and students was a huge success.  Many families attended and there were a range of activities, performances and sessions running for each Learning Area.  Students participated in tasters for many subjects and it was evident that they were enjoying the evening with some very positive feedback received on the night.

Progress reports

Progress reports have been issued and are available on Compass.  We recommend you regularly check on Compass to see how your son or daughter is progressing but particularly at reporting time to access their full term or semester reports.  If you are unsure how to access the parent portal, please contact the general office and they will be able to assist you.

Parent teacher interviews

Parent teacher interviews are being held on the last Wednesday of Term 1, 28 March, between 1:00pm and 7:00pm. Students need to book a time with each of their teachers. We look forward to seeing students in attendance along with their parents or guardians. This is a great opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress report and strategies that may assist them in each of their subjects. It is a time for them to reflect on their learning for the term and to set some goals to assist them achieve continual growth.

Curriculum Day

The Curriculum Day on Friday, 23 March is a day where the staff will be working together in teams to implement the Victorian Curriculum General Capabilities.  Staff will take part in a presentation with Dr David Howes from VCAA in a session designed to set up the tasks for the day.  In their KLA groups staff will look at implementation across the year levels.  It will be a very worthwhile day and is an important part of our curriculum development.  Please note this is a student free day and no student is required at school.

Instructional Learning Cycle (LATAR)

This year we are again working with Jane Pollock to assist our newest staff members to make the most effective use of the Instructional Learning Cycle (LATAR) we have implemented.  In Term 1 she has worked with the new staff to ensure they are comfortable using this cycle and to provide guidance and support around planning and implementing the cycle during lessons.  She also worked with the group who started as new staff to SASC in 2017 to build on the work they started with her last year.  Both days have been very well received by staff, who have reported feeling more confident in the use of LATAR.
